God Wink for Cheryl

When I think of Cheryl Florence the first picture that comes to mind is that of her exuberant and squinty-eyed grin, as she details the story of her latest encounter with some type of, “God Wink” in her life or that of someone she knows. Cheryl loves nothing more than to join her friends and loved ones in proclaiming the goodness of God and how He shows up in sometimes unexpected and seemingly serendipitous ways to deliver on His promises of love, compassion, and Divine provision.

This GoFundMe campaign offers an opportunity for God, through all of us, to give a God-wink and a hug to Cheryl, husband Bruce, and son Brayden, amidst nearly 4 months of sudden and unexpected medical, physical, and emotional hardship.

In November ‘22, after experiencing a few weeks of growing abdominal discomfort, Cheryl went to the ER. A CT scan and biopsy resulted in a diagnosis of endometrial, or uterine cancer. Hopes were high that a total hysterectomy, scheduled for a few days before Christmas, would render her cancer-free, and allow her to heal, possibly without further treatment. Cheryl could then get on with enjoying her life, job, and family. Instead, there were complications after surgery, including two blood clots and an infection, accompanied by severe spine and pelvic pain. Since December, this constant pain has robbed Cheryl of sleep and the ability to live an active, normal life. Additionally, surgical pathology results have noted cancer cells in some lymph nodes, leading to a diagnosis of Stage III cancer and a recommendation of chemotherapy. Unrelenting post-surgical spinal and nerve pain has caused that treatment plan to be stalled amidst an urgent, continuing quest for the pain relief necessary to allow Cheryl to gain her strength and proceed with treatment. These months of stress and difficulty have included a litany of costly medical procedures, adding to the financial and emotional burden that accompanies the typical experience leading to and accompanying a cancer diagnosis.
