Hi, I'm George

I was born in November 2023 via emergency c-section due to mummy suffering a double rupture of her uterus. This caused me to be starved of blood and oxygen to my brain.

I was born pale and floppy, so I required resuscitation and intubation to ensure that I survived. I wasn't expected to survive and Daddy was instructed to take a photo of me to ensure that Mummy got to see me. Fortunately I was strong enough to pull through!

My first ever MRI scan was taken when I was 6 days old. It showed that I had suffered widespread Hypoxic ischaemia encephalopathy (HIE), which is likely to lead to severe motor and cognitive impairments. It is also the reason that I am fed through an NG tube.

I was transferred to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton to undergo 72 hours of cooling therapy, which is the only treatment available for a HIE injury.

I was discharged home from the NICU at 24 days old and will require multidisciplinary support throughout my life.

I will require assistance with my mobility, I will likely be non-verbal and am visually impaired.

I suffer from epilepsy, painful dystonia and cerebal palsy.

My conditions may be life limiting but I am determined to live my life to the fullest and make lots of memories along the way.

Hydrotherapy has proved to be very beneficial to me, and thanks to this page I've been able to have a hot tub and gazeebo installed at home, allowing me to have Hydrotherapy daily.

As I grow and develop, my needs grow and develop with me. There is a huge array of treatments, therapies and equipment available to help me, but not all are available via the NHS or charity funding. Mummy and Daddy are extremely keen to ensure that I have access to everything that I may need to ensure that I remain comfortable and am able to lead the best life possible.

Whilst continuing to work full time, Mummy and Daddy find it difficult to access means tested charitable funding.

All proceeds recieved via this page will be utilised to pay for treatments, therapies and equipment to enable me to thrive and develop as best as I can.

My next goal is to learn to stand with the aid of a standing frame. Research has shown that from the age of 1 year old, I can start using a standing frame. This will allow me to put weight through my body, legs and feet, ensuring that my hips develop correctly, whilst teaching me to stand aided by the frame.

If I can learn to stand, I maybe able progress to walking. It's all a distant dream at the moment but with the help of everyone around me, the dream might become a reality.

I have applied for an intensive therapy course which is carried out locally and I will be assessed as soon as I'm 1, but I would love to be accepted onto the residential NAPA intensive therapy course, held in London. This course would provide me with upto 6 hours of therapy per day, 5 days per week for 3 weeks. This comes at a cost of around £5000 for the course, but we would also need to account for accommodation.

This link is a 2min46second video which explains HIE.
