Go Fund Me BRANDO!
Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Michelle Campbell, and I'm Brando's mom. On August 27th, I came home after a quick dinner with a girlfriend to find my Cavalier King Charles/Chihuahua mix and love-of-my-life, BRANDO, greeting me at the door and scooting around--completely unable to use his hind legs. After frantically googling Brando's symptoms, I rushed to ASEC --the Pet ER near Santa Monica. After some tests and x-rays, they advised me to see my normal VET first thing in the morning and told me that Brando was suffering from a form of disc disease and would most likely be on bed rest for the next four weeks in order to calm the nerves along his spinal chord which had allowed the signal to use his hind legs to be truncated in the first place.
I checked in with my vet at the Beverly Hills Small Animal Hospital first thing the next morning. My doctor compared notes with my ASEC doctor from the night before, and Brando's symptoms had gotten worse: his ability to feel sensation in his hind feet had weakened dramatically. They recommended an MRI and potential surgery. "The longer you wait when the feeling is already going away, the lesser the chances will be for him to regain the ability to walk again."
After some bloodwork tests, we were given the OK to take off, telling me that they'd forward all of Brando's information to ASEC. About an hour later, Brando was given an MRI and then immediately checked in for emergency surgery to remove the herniated discs along his spine: in the hopes that after all was said and done, he could regain the ability to walk once again.
Weeks later, we are now in the process of therapy and rehabilitation, and recieving treatment from C.A.R.E. They have prescribed 8 weeks of therapy- with 2 sessions per week, and two VET check ups-- one half-way through and one at the end of treatment. As of October 4, we have just completed our second week of therapy and Brando is showing much improvement!! Therapy includes physical therapy from certified pet physical therapists (whom all used to be people therapists first), acupuncture, massage therapy and underwater treadmill (Brando's favorite!).
With all bills from the beginning of this process to the projected end, the total amounts to about $8,000.
You might ask yourself how far you'd be willing to go for a pet? In my head, there's be
en no question. You just do it. Brando's my family. My kid. My confidant. My best friend. I'd do anything for him-- even if it means that my quality of life has to take a back seat. I mean, I rescued this guy when he 6 months old. I'm in this forever. We both are.
Many of you may know who I am, and for those who don't: I currently support myself mostly through the income I garner as a waitress. During the day, I'm conquering the world, hustling to make it as an actress in this crazy business! And on a waitress salary, these bills have been an overwhelming mountain to face.
With the extra time needed for Brando's therapy, our at-home exercises and care and all the while striving to keep on top of things in my personal/professional life, the option of working extra shifts at my restaurant to get ahead has seemed impossible.
It's not easy asking for help, and I thought long and hard about doing this and I came to this conclusion: Well... What's the worst that could happen? At the very least, all of you can garner some insight into the life of my pretty awesome dog. :) and, I think he's pretty amazing. He certainly makes my days brighter! So there's a big plus right there.
So. If you or anyone you know would be interested in helping out- it would absolutely mean the world to us. You'd be doing this amazing, amazing, incredible thing and from the bottom of our big and little hearts, we thank you SO MUCH!!! I have no idea what or if anything will come of this, but just know that any support you give will be (and already is) deeply appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Brando and our story.
THANK YOU!!!
All of our LOVE,
Brando and Michelle xoxoxo
