A Cure for Ginger
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Douglas Pate, my wife Lisa and I are raising money for research and other expenses for our daughter Ginger whom was born with a rare genetic disorder called KCNMA1. Due to KCNMA1, Ginger has dystonia , a muscle disorder that causes her to have daily seizure-like episodes that often leave her confined to a wheelchair. Ginger has tried more than two dozen traditional seizure medications , to no avail. Surprisingly, Adderall XR helps control the episodes to some degree; however, it is not a cure. Due to years of the debilitating episodes, Ginger has speech, social, and behavior issues. Due to Ginger's lack of speech and difficulty with social skills, she has also been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Ginger's behavior improved significantly with Applied Behavioral Therapy (ABA). which her existing insurance does not cover. Ginger also has other medical issues that not covered by her insurance. There is no cure for KCNMA1. The only hope for finding a cure for Ginger is research that will lead to a gene replacement or gene therapy. I would like to thank everyone in advance for contributing and helping and us realize our dream of finding a cure for Ginger.
