Autistic Young Man Needs Full Mouth Restoration

Donation protected
It’s time to start again. This fund raiser has been on hold for a long while because my autistic son James has been too sick to have dental work. We have hope now that he can get the work done this summer. Please help.

He has been bedridden for a very long time. He has a new network of specialists working to diagnose his severe fatigue. Having to endure severe dental pain because he is too sick for dental work has been an awful situation. In May he began to recieve tests that previous doctors said he could not have because of his autism. I hope to get his teeth fixed this summer. Please help me do this for James.

I am raising money for dental surgeries for my autistic son James that I have not paid off yet and for the full mouth restoration where he will recieve implants and caps.. He is in a great deal of pain and needs a full mouth dental restoration. I need to raise at least $60,000 to pay a prosthodontist in advance. They will not agree to do a full mouth restoration unless they are paid in advance.

All I have been able to do on my own is pay for his dental extraction surgeries and X-rays.

James is a very sweet young man and has suffered a great deal of physical pain simultaneously from cancer and from his teeth. He is 38 years old and functions at a two year old level. He is extremely kind and gentle.

Dentists who accept his Denti-Cal insurance would not agree to fix his teeth because they said  his case was too complex for University Dental Students and too dangerous because of his multiple, serious co-morbidities.

I've been paying for James's dental care, doing emergency extractions at approx $3000 per surgery. I planned to apply for a loan from JFLA, Jewish Interest Free Loans Association in Los Angeles  to cover a portion of the dental restoration as soon as a prosthodontist agreeds to do the full mouth restoration but prosthodontists want to be paid UPFRONT before they will agree to do the work. They will not accept a payment plan or partial payment.

Please, if you can, help me keep doing the individual emergency dental surgeries and if you can, please help donate towards the full mouth restoration. He is going to need at least four implants. Right now he needs some emergency root canals. He is in constant pain. The Urgent Care Centers, Hoag Emergency Room and his neurologist and primary care doctors have been helping him with antibiotics for repeat  dental infections and dental pain. The fact that he has an undiagnosed condition that causes him fatgue and fainting makes it even harder to find a dentist willing to take his case. This Friday, May 13, 2022, James is having a heart monitor implanted in his chest to help diagnose his fatigue, fainting and sharp pains he has right before fainting. It took two years to find a cardiologist who would do this procedure to help James because they believed an autistic person couldn't cooperate. Thank God we finally found a cardiologist willing to try. I had to argue with three hospitals to get his chemo for the same reason. I was told three times that because of his severe autism, James was not a candidate for chemo. He cooperated just fine with chemo and fought hard to stay alive. It was sepsis that almost killed him and then again, twice blood clots almost killed him. I can't wait to watch him able to chew food again. I think he will be amazed that the pain went away and he can enjoy food again.

I began using my Synchrony Bank CareCredit credit card to pay for James's emergency extraction dental surgeries.  My credit limit won’t cover the very expensive full mouth restoration but I could do necessary extractions, CT scans and molds of his teeth. All of his molars are broken down to the gum-line and the nerves are exposed. The pain makes it hard for him to sleep and eat. He suffers with every bite of food he takes. Also, James is on warfarin blood thinner because he has a blood clotting disorder. This complicates surgery.

James has factor II G20210A mutation and has to be on warfarin blood thinner for the rest of his life to keep from dying of a blood clot. That is another reason so many dentists refused to take his case. James had metastatic testicular cancer surgery and on May 30, 2019 had his right testicle removed and then had chemo. He almost died of sepsis and blood clots during chemo. He vomited bile onto his broken teeth for weeks and this destroyed his enamel. No work could be done on his teeth because he was too sick. Then in December 2020 he had his remaining testicle removed. He had serious leg swelling caused by being off warfarin for the surgery. In August 2020 he had a dental surgery. In June 2021 he had a gastro surgery. In October 2021 he had two teeth extracted and never bounced back from that surgery. He became bedridden and would faint if he tried to walk. Hopefully his new team of doctors will get a diagnosis and treatment in the next few weeks and we will be able to resume dental work this summer and get it done once and for all.

Covid and set backs in his health keep causing additional delays, but the biggest cause of delay is the upfront money. Prosthodontists want all the money up front.

His dental pain is intense, 24/7. Please help James. From the look on his face you would never know how much he has suffered and how close to death he has come on several occassions due to cancer and sepsis and blood clots. He almost always has a sweet smile on his face. Please share his story with your friends. We are in the Southern California area. Thank you for your time and consideration of James's situation.
