Help Amy Smoke & Chey Chaniece Pay Racist Fines
Donation protected
Edited to include Chey Chaniece, another Indigenous person "identified," read targeted, as participating in the anti-racism rally and fined $880. It appears as though only Chey and Amy have been ticketed, but this page may continue to be updated if more information is learned.
On May 27, 2021, cops waited for Amy at their home and accosted them in front of their scared child with a $880 fine because they were "identified", read racially profiled, as attending the anti-racism rally in Wilmot earlier this month.
Meanwhile white supremacist and anti-mask rallies and protests in the Region that blatantly ignore public health protocols receive no such fines and are instead provided with police escorts.
Under Section 18 of the Stay At Home Order Indigenous folks are exempt when "exercising an Aboriginal or treaty right as recognized and affirmed by section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982."
Please contribute to paying these appalling, racist fines so Amy and Chey can continue doing good work in our community. While the fines amount to $1760 ($880/pp), a goal of $4000 was set to represent a fraction of the psychological burden police interactions cause.
