NOTE: I am personally responsible for withdrawing the money into my own bank account and will be transferred to Read to Lead Afghanistan Organization bank account to distribute the funds to the affected victims.
I have been completely grief stricken since yesterday upon hearing about the attack on our Afghan Sikh brothers and sisters at their Gurudwra in Kabul. It is beyond comprehension as to why anyone would want to harm one of the most peaceful groups of people in this universe. According to news reports, gunmen and suicide bombers have killed at least 25 worshippers, including women and children, and injured many others in an early morning attack on a Sikh Gurudwara in the heart of Kabul--with the youngest being only 6 years old. They couldn't even mourn in peace as an explosive device disrupted the funeral service.
I've had the privilege to break bread with the Sikh community here in the U.S. and abroad in Punjab and Kabul. I am mourning and grieving in solidarity with them today as we are all in this fight to end the violence. I know this is a difficult time in the world with COVID-19 being at the forefront of our daily lives. However, we can't forget the most vulnerable people at a time like this--where violence is being added on top of the global pandemic. After hearing yesterday's news, I was able to get in touch with some people on the ground in Kabul who will be distributing the funds we raise for the families who have been affected. It wont take away their grief or bring back their loved ones that were killed in front of their eyes, but I am hoping it will ease off some burden off of their shoulders. Please share with your networks and donate what you can. Any dollar amount helps and is appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
