In memory of Steven Summers

In the early morning hours of November 1st 2014, a fire broke out at 20 Noyes Street in Portland, Maine. Between 10-15 individuals were asleep when the fire began which quickly spread through out the house. Fortunately one resident who had set their alarm for work at 7 AM woke to smell of smoke and instantly determined a fire. Due to the size of the house, not everyone could hear his screams. A few residents did and fortunately got out of the building through second floor windows as the first floor was fully engulfed within minutes and all entrances/exits were inaccesible due to extreme heat/smoke/fire. It is unknown how Steve awoke but his halloween costume had ignited while trying to escape the burning room and ultimately Steve himself was burned over his entire body. Despite extreme heat and no oxygen, Steve fought through the flames of the room and managed to escape the burning building and had to crawl into the streets to a puddle where he was met by his best friend who also was trapped in the fire but escaped as well. Steve's friend put the flames on Steve out in the street with his clothes and kept Steve company and concious while emergency crews arrived to extinguish the fire. First responders who transported Steve to the local hospital were amazed that he survived and believed he wouldn't make the trip to Maine Medical in Portland but he did. Doctors determined that due to the severity of his burns, he would have to be transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to a specialized burn unit. It was not expected for Steven to survive the night due to the extreme burns but he did. As of November 3rd, 2014 he is responsive but in critical condition with 24/7 care at his side by expert medical professionals. Steven's family has traveled from all over the country to be by his side as he could pass away at anytime.

We all know Steven is a fighter and to imagine the drive and determination he had to make it out of a burning room unable to breath or see while completely covered in flames is incredible and an understatement of Steve's will to live. At this time, he needs everyone's support and prayers. If Steven pulls through, there is a long road to recovery and will need all the financial support he can. Due to the circumstances of his injuries, he will be unable to work or pay bills or take care of himself for a very long time as he will need treatments, skin graphs, rehabilitation, medicines, and physical/emotional therapy. Although the above amount is only $10,000 that I request to help Steve, he will need a lot more and any donations possible are welcomed and encouraged.

Steven Summers is first and foremost a father of two beautiful girls aged 3 and 5 respectively. He graduated from the University of Maine in Augusta with a Bachelor's Degree in Administration of Justice and is a United States Military Veteran having served with the Navy with deployments across the globe. Steven was employed by Boston Financial working in the stock market and trades commission. On his free time, Steve was a devoted musician who spent hours on end working on music with his friends and enjoyed the gym, travel, spending time with friends, and just enjoying life day to day. He is well known for being incredibly happy and positive, a pro-social individual who wasn't judgement who would go out of his way to make anyone's day and remind them they were special in their own way. To see Steve fight for his life, completely burned and unconcious, is heart breaking for all those who know and care for him. He has two daughters that need him, a family that loves him, and countless friends who want nothing but to see this man on his feet and back to his life again. Please pass the word and help us raise money for Steven Summers road to recovery.
