Hi there!
We are Team 5854 GLITCH. A rookie FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. We've come further than we ever dreamed possible at the beginning of our build season in January.
Since Jan. we've built a robot (in 6 weeks), we've entered & competed in two district competitions as well as qualifying & competing the State Championship held in Charlotte, NC. We received the NC Rookie All Star award and that advanced us on to the World Championship in St. Louis, MO.
We need your help to get our team there!
NOTE: If you would like to have a tax receipt please donate via our website and we will manually add your name here. If you would like to pay by check please contact us (the organizer) below.
You can enjoy the video above by clicking on the image. Please note: we initially asked for $5,000 for State but now we are in a whole new ball (or would that be bot) game with the World Championship.
Our story in more detail:
Our team, GLITCH 5854, is comprised of 24 students from 8 different highschools. Many of our students have learned completely new skills in STEM-related fields and others have grown in already acquired skills - from programming, to mechanical, to electrical, to marketing ... and the list goes on.
At our first district event (in Guilford, NC) we were awarded Rookie All Star. Then at our second district event (at UNC Asheville, NC) we were awarded the Rookie High Seed and Rookie Inspiration awards. At both of these events we had various setbacks and challenges. Everything from needing to redesign our drive train to brainstorming new strategies. Each time the team rallied and stepped up to the task!
Enjoy this video detailing our story.
On Sunday, April 3rd, we found out that we were ranked 25th in the state after all of the district competitions were complete. Only the top 32 get to advance to the State level competition which meant we were in! The State Championship took place on April 8-10th at UNC Charlotte. We were very excited, but also knew that we had a lot of work ahead of us to be accomplished in a very short amount of time!
At the State Championship we competed like crazy and ended that event being ranked 3rd in the state. We were absolutely blown away! It was as if our Robot (Sir GLITCH-a-lot) and our Drive Team got in sync to score point after point. It was amazing.
There is one other very BIG and important thing that happened at the State Championship; we won NC Rookie All Star!!!! The highest honor for a rookie team to win. This award is given to the rookie team "exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology." We feel so privileged and grateful to have won this award.
With this privilage comes a spot in the World Championship in St. Louis, MO. This is a place we've only hoped and dreamed about, and now that dream is coming true. We are pinching ourselves to make sure it's all really happening!!
This is not an inexpensive proposition, it will cost our team at least $20,000.00 to send all of our students, mentors and our robot. We are asking for your help to support our rookie team so we can go on and compete at the World level (yes, teams from ALL over the world will be there) as well as having a chance at the World Championship Rookie All Star Award.
Become part of our team, donate now, and get your GLITCH on :)
