Go Grammy Go!

On February 7th of this year our 89 year old mum, grammy, great gramma, oma, g'ma, gammy,  Teresa de Haas,  fell down a flight of stairs to the basement, breaking six ribs, her shoulder bone, pelvic bone, and worst of all,  she sustained a traumatic brain injury.  She spent a week in Sunnybrook ICU in Toronto where she was in a coma and the doctors gave us zero hope for her recovery.  We thought that we had lost her.   The doctors suggested we take her off life support.   We had almost given up hope.  And then she squeezed our hands.  Every day there was a sign she gave us that she was still there, that we shouldn't give up on her.

Since that day she has been fighting every single minute to get back to us.  To her three daughters,  her eight grandchildren, and her four great grandchildren.  We are all trying to help her as much as we can, she's now in a neurology ward in Brampton Hospital.  She is breathing on her own, she is able to sit up with assistance,  get put in a wheelchair with a special lift and is learning to talk and swallow again.   She is only able to get 10 minutes of hospital physio a week,  but the family is doing hours of work with her, to help fill the gap that the health system has left.

Because of her age they don't believe that she will get better. Because of her age they only see statistics.  They don't see what a super hero she is.   It's only been a month and look how far she has come! They don't know her like we know her.  She is a fighter!   She's talking in short sentences, she's lifting her arms and legs, though her left arm is not as good as the right.

We know she can do it, but the problem is that the hospital wants to send her to a nursing home.  We're not going to do that. We want to bring her home!  We know that if she comes home we can help her heal faster, give her better care,  and help get her physio every single day.   Yes physio is expensive but we are hoping that with your help we can pay for the rehab specialists to get grammy back on her feet again.

Please would you consider helping fund Grammy's gofundme?  We know she can do this, but we need your help.  Thank you for listening to her story,  thank you for believing that her story isn't done yet, that there are still chapters to go!!

Go Grammy Go!!  We all love you. xxx
