About the Gold Star Project of Colorado
In 2006 a Gold Star Wife and a Blue Star Mother formed the first chapter of the Blue Star Mothers in Colorado. They went on to create a special weekend/seminar for the parents who had a child die while they were serving in the military. For the past 12 years, the program has been under the umbrella of the Blue Star Mothers of Colorado. In December 2017, we formed our own entity to better protect, unify and serve our Colorado Gold Star Families. Our mission remains the same which is to honor the Fallen Military Heroes and to provide inspiration, support, and encouragement to the parents who raised these young men and women.
About the Gold Star Parents Weekend
This October 2020 will be the 15th Annual Gold Star Parents Weekend, which is being held in Glenwood Springs on October 2 - 4, 2020. Colorado has over 250 Gold Star Families who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. This weekend is set aside for those parents who lost a child while serving in the military at the time of their death, either in combat, from illness, accident or suicide. This weekend/seminar allows these parents a special time to be with other Gold Star families, to share stories of their children, to share their grief and their hopes, as well as to laugh, cry and often to start their healing process. The weekend includes workshops, counseling opportunities, and seminars and this year we expect approximately 100 families to attend.
How you can help Gold Star Parents Weekend
The goal of the Gold Star Project of Colorado is to raise $60,000 to cover all expenses for the Gold Star Parents Weekend. We do not ask our families to pay for the weekend as they have already given enough to our state and our country. These funds provide for the workshops, counseling opportunities, seminars and accommodations at the Hotel Colorado. All donations will be used to further this critical time of healing for those attending. As we are a 501(c) (3) designated organization all donations are tax-deductible.
