GOLDEN MIX HIT BY CAR NEED CHRISTMAS MIRACLE

Tax deductible
Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue got a call on Christmas Eve morning from the Camarillo shelter - Ventura County Animal Services.  A sweet, 3 year old Golden Mix had been found hit by a car by a good Samaritan.  Her medical needs were too great for a local vet to help so the shelter was called.  There were obvious leg injuries as well as a scraped up nose.  Her owners were found but they unfortunately didn't have the resources to help this girl who's name is Dulce.  SCGRR said absolutely we would help and one of our dedicated volunteers jumped in the car.

Since the shelter had been unable to reset Dulce's dislocated hip joint, we thought it best to transport her directly to Animal Medical Center and the fabulous orthopedic specialist Alan Schulman.  Thankfully he was working that day and was able to see her right away.

Dulce has 2 dislocated joints but thankfully no obvious fractures.  The challenge with this particular injury is if they are reset within 24 hrs of occurrence, the prognosis is pretty good.   But we don't know how long she was injured on the street and the fact that the shelter vet could not reset it makes us worry.  Also - with left hip and right elbow - 2 opposing limbs - any recovery will be even more challenging.  One slip and something could pop back out!  The plan last night was to immediately sedate Dulce and attempt to do a "closed reduction" (reset the joints) non-surgically.  If that wasn't possible then Dr. Schulman would immediate move to surgical resolution of the elbow and if time permitted, the hip.  We are hoping for a Christmas Miracle!

With the holiday in full swing, updates are slow but we are grateful that she was seen and treated last night.  We will provide updates as soon as we have them.  It is this amazing community of supporters that allows SCGRR to help dogs like this.  We are so grateful for your support in a year of record-setting medical bills.
