Refurbishing the Golden View farm sign is a Community Service Project through the Robert Mayer Leadership Academy (RMLA). The RMLA is a nine-month Leadership Academy has provided young professionals with leadership development in Huntington Beach for more than fifteen years. Part of the RMLA is a community service project and one group of RMLA participants has chosen the Farm at Golden View Elementary School to support.
The Farm at Golden View is a hands-on interactive classroom with farm animals, environmental science workshops, and student planted gardens. Students are learning by DOING! You can visit the school website here!
The sign for the farm does double duty as a chalkboard for the farm classroom and needs to be replaced. The outdoor classroom consists of the sign/chalkboard and many tree stumps for children to sit on. The area is currently dirt and can get very muddy during the rainy season. This project will also lay down gravel to help with drainage and allow the outdoor classroom to be used even after rainy days. An additional part of the project is to source more tree stumps for more seating for the kids.
The Goal for this project is to raise funds to pay for the supplies so that the Robert Mayer Project group can do the labor for the project.
The annual nine-month Leadership Academy has provided young professionals with leadership development in Huntington Beach for more than fifteen years. Participants gain an understanding of local government, public safety, education, and health care systems as well as the city’s business figures, economic climate, and social uniqueness. Through panel presentations and learning sessions led by community leaders and subject experts, the academy presents a wide spectrum of views.
The program facilitates the growth of community leadership by educating professionals with special attention paid to integrity, vision, personal responsibility, commitment, and community trusteeship. The class project affords each participant the unique opportunity to develop their potential for public responsibility and leave a lasting impression on their community as they work toward advancing an organization’s goal or solving a shared problem.
