Help Local AZ Farmer: Golo Family Farm
Donation protected
James and Jawn Golo, the husband and wife team behind Golo Family Farms, were in a major car accident that sent them both into the hospital with serious injuries. The accident occurred on May 7th, 2022 after the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market and was caused by another motorist driving aggressively and swiping the front of the Golo’s van around Central Avenue and Thomas Road. This caused their van to swerve in the opposing lane of oncoming traffic and hit a metal light pole to dodge oncoming traffic. The motorist responsible for the accident did not stay at the scene and still has not come forward.
James was in intensive care for over a week with punctured lungs, cracked ribs, a wrist fracture, and the right side of his body badly damaged. He is currently in rehab. His wife, Jawn, was also in intensive care for over a week and suffered damages to her face, mouth, and legs. She will need surgery on her mouth and dental implants to replace her teeth.
Additionally, the family will need a replacement vehicle or truck in order to return to the markets and provide local, freshly grown vegetables and herbs to the Phoenix community.
The Golo family has been farming in Phoenix since 2009, starting as refugee farmers who participated in The International Rescue Committee’s New Roots Program. Their farm participates in the Feed Phoenix Program, and the couple are fixtures in the local farmers market scene for 13 years. Their produce can be regularly found at the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market and High Street Farmers Market.
100% of the donations will go directly to the Golo family to cover medical expenses and the purchase of another vehicle so that they can return to the markets and continue providing the vegetables and herbs grown on their farm located in Litchfield, Arizona. Donations are also accepted on Saturday mornings at the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market .
Thank you for your generosity and support of one of our local small farmers; every dollar received is needed and much appreciated.
