Let's help our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia

Gon Le Gon (GLG) a brotherhood group (Mahiber in Amharic) in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area seeks your help in assisting our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia. GLG was founded in January of 2018 by a group of friends who recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood, to provide mentorship to others in the community, and take part in humanitarian activities.
There is no denying that the civil war that started in late 2020 (in Tigray) and the current civil unrest in different regions of Ethiopia is affecting so many innocent men, women, and children and calls for humanitarian aid. The crisis cost thousands of lives and displaced thousands of people out of their homes in different regions. To make matters worse, the current COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected people and they are in desperate need of medical care, medical supplies, personal protective equipment, shelter, feminine hygiene products, and clean water.
In hopes of being part of the solution, we (GLG) will be donating $2,000 and are asking our close family members, friends and the community to help us reach our target of $10,000 towards this cause. As stated above, this is not our first humanitarian effort. In the past, we have been involved in humanitarian projects both in the DMV and Ethiopia. Last year we were fortunate enough to help the elderly and those with mental disabilities by providing funds for everyday items.
For this effort, we will be working with family members located in Mekelle and Desse in order to ensure the funds are properly allocated and reach the people that are in need. Both family members are currently working tirelessly to help people in those regions. As of right now, one of the groups works with displaced women and children in Desse and the other group with displaced women and children in Mekelle. The money raised will be donated to the two regions to purchase basic food items (pasta, bread, milk for kids, etc.); non-food items (mattress, sheet & blanket, clothes, housing needs, feminine hygiene products, soap, shoes, etc.); and medical supplies.
