Gone too soon: Honoring Narda Tercero

Hello friends and family,

it is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news that we lost a big piece of our family, Narda Elizabeth Tercero. She had been in & out of hospital stays since early July. She received a cancer diagnosis in June for a mass that had formed on her knee suddenly & was causing her much discomfort. Unfortunately, her condition worsened quickly, causing her continuous uncontrollable seizures, intubation, a growing cancerous mass & heavy sedation. After multiple talks with doctors, nurses, & consults with neurologists, we were forced to make the hard decision that no family member ever wants to make. My family & I let her go & she took her final breath on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 6:57pm.

My mom lived a very hard life, dealing with an abusive & toxic childhood & marriage in Honduras. She was a product of her environment but managed to find moments of beauty in the mundane. When she immigrated to the United States to be with her husband & become a citizen, she did what she could to provide for me & my two older brothers. Working tirelessly to provide a life she never had, my mom was an integral part of our family. The glue that kept us all together. Keeping us close-knit was always her desire. She was never as happy as when we were all under the same roof; her kids, their spouses, & her grandkids. To those that didn’t know her, she was a (tiny, 4’11) force to be reckoned with but she never let her small size stop her from anything. She was a beloved grandmother, mother, mother-in-law & devote member of the Christian church. Most people usually only saw her serious demeanor but for those of us that knew her, really knew her, we knew how silly she truly was. How much she truly loved to laugh, how she loved to put on dance parties for her grandkids even when it meant dancing alone. How she loved watching her church preachings on YouTube. Those that knew her knew that her favorite movie genre was sci-fi or fantasy & rainy days were her favorite days to have a Harry Potter movie marathon. How she loved her plants & had a natural green thumb. How much she truly loved good food & getting all dolled up, & if she could combine both of those, EVEN BETTER. She was extubated & passed surrounded by her loved ones, with her three kids holding her hands through the threshold of life & death. Her joyful spirit & laugh will be excruciatingly missed.

Now we humbly ask for her community to show up & show out for her. We’re asking for support in any way possible whether financially or sharing of this gofundme. The funeral & burial costs are extensive as well as the bills left behind from the beginning of her hospitalization in July of 2024. Anything helps & is very much appreciated. Please help us give my mom a celebration of life that would’ve left her feeling loved & honored. She deserved it. Thank you in advance for your love & support, & for reading up to this point.

Hola amigos y familiares,

Con gran pesar compartimos la triste noticia de que hemos perdido a una gran parte de nuestra familia, Narda Elizabeth Tercero. Había estado entrando y saliendo del hospital desde principios de Julio. En Junio le diagnosticaron cáncer por una masa que se había formado repentinamente en su rodilla y que le estaba causando mucho malestar. Desafortunadamente, su condición empeoró rápidamente, lo que le provocó convulsiones incontrolables continuas, intubación, una masa cancerosa en crecimiento y sedación intensa. Después de múltiples conversaciones con médicos, enfermeras y consultas con neurólogos, nos vimos obligados a tomar la difícil decisión que ningún miembro de la familia quiere tomar. Mi familia y yo la dejamos ir en paz con Dios y dio su último suspiro el Domingo 25 de Agosto de 2024 a las 6:57 p.m.

Mi mama vivió una vida muy dura, lidiando con una infancia y un matrimonio abusivo y tóxico en Honduras pero logró encontrar momentos de belleza en las cosas mas sencillas. Cuando emigró a los Estados Unidos para estar con su esposo y convertirse en ciudadana, hizo lo que pudo para mantenerme a mí y a mis dos hermanos mayores. Trabajando incansablemente para darnos una vida que ella nunca tuvo, mi mama fue una parte integral de nuestra familia. El pegamento que nos mantuvo a todos juntos. Mantenernos unidos siempre fue su deseo. Nunca fue tan feliz como cuando estábamos todos bajo el mismo techo; sus hijos, sus cónyuges y sus nietos. Para aquellos que no la conocían, ella era una fuerza (pequeña, de 4'11) inquebrantable, pero nunca dejó que su pequeño tamaño la detuviera de nada. Era una abuela, madre, suegra y miembra de la iglesia Cristiana. La mayoría de la gente generalmente solo veía su comportamiento bien seria, pero para aquellos de nosotros que la conocíamos, realmente, sabíamos la graciosa que realmente era. Como cuánto le encantaba reírse, cómo le encantaba bailar para sus nietos incluso cuando eso significaba que bailaba sola. Cuánto le encantaba ver los sermones de las iglesias en YouTube. Los que la conocían sabían que su género de película favorita era la ciencia ficción o la fantasía y que los días lluviosos eran sus días favoritos para hacer una maratón de películas de Harry Potter. Cómo amaba a sus plantas y tenía una mano verde natural. Cuánto amaba de verdad la comida buena y arreglarse bien bonita, y si podía combinar las dos cosas, AÚN MEJOR. Fue extubada y falleció rodeada de sus seres queridos, con sus tres hijos tomándola de la mano a través del portal de la vida y la muerte. Su espíritu alegre y su risa se extrañarán terriblemente.

Ahora pedimos humildemente que su comunidad se presente para ella. Estamos pidiendo apoyo de cualquier manera posible, ya sea financieramente o compartiendo este gofundme. Los costos del funeral y el entierro son altos, así como las facturas que quedaron desde el comienzo de su hospitalización en Julio de 2024. Cualquier ayuda es muy apreciada. Por favor, ayúdenos a darle a mi mamá una celebración de la vida que la hubiera dejado sintiéndose amada y honrada. Ella se lo merecía.
