Gonzaga or Bust! Help Stephanie Get to GU
Donation protected
My name is Stephanie, and I am from Richmond, California. As a first-generation student, my parents always pushed me to get good grades to have a better and brighter future than theirs. I am currently a senior in high school, and in four months, I will be attending the college of my dreams- Gonzaga University. Here I will pursue my dream career, becoming an educator and returning to Richmond to teach at my high school. Unfortunately, my parents will not be contributing to my education financially, and I am unable to pay 18,000 on my own. I have applied for various scholarships and have received funding for my tuition, but still need to cover my housing and food costs.
For the past four years, I had dedicated my high school experience to become a leader in my community. From being a student trustee to being a state-wide representative, I have learned the importance of higher education and the barriers that people of color face to achieve a better future. The more I am in these spaces, the more I improve community leader. Attending Gonzaga will enhance my leadership skills while also learning new ways to give back to my community.
As I mentioned previously, I am a first-generation student being the first in my family to attend college- even graduate high school. Becoming a teacher has been my dream since I was in the second grade. I chose to major in education because I didn’t have teachers who had the same identities as me- first-generation, queer, women of color, etc. Coming back to my community and hopefully becoming a mentor to the future generation would mean the world to me.
Higher education is new to me and not what I expected. However, it is worth chasing my dreams and making my second-grade self proud. Thank you so much for reading this and donating if you can. It means the absolute world to me and my future.
