Good Grief Network's Personal/Collective Growth
Donation protected
Aimee and LaUra have been undergoing a "great cosmic experiment" (term coined by our friend Stefanie) for more than a year. About a year and a half ago, we quit our jobs in Salt Lake City, UT and relocated to rural Nebraska where we've had 10 or so odd-end jobs (custodian, basketball coach, flag football referee, dog sitting, yoga instructor, pumpkin patch worker, weed puller, bartender/server, rockwall assistant) trying to stay afloat.
Additionally, we have been so supported and taken care of by our community so that we can dig into building the Good Grief Network. We've been provided free housing. Each month we received donations from Patreon , which helps us pay some of our bills. We often have books and other resources sent to us to keep us up-to-date on the discussions about the wicked predicament we're facing.
The gratitude flows.
Now, we're asking for help again. It's not easy to ask. Amanda Palmer has really helped us learn how to ask for help - and that it's okay to be supported by our community. We are in the next phase of that ask....
While we're in the midst of writing a book, Aimee and LaUra have the opportunity to participate in Retreats/Trainings.
In September, Aimee has been invited to a writing retreat with Mirabai Starr at Ghost Ranch , NM. She will have days to be inspired by a beautiful landscape and others who are writing books. This is a wonderful opportunity for Aimee who graduated four years ago with her MFA in Creative Writing. She hasn't written much since then (she has been focusing more on finding her voice regardless of how "literary" it is) - until we recently began writing our book. She is excited to dig deep into our thoughts/philosophies about Good Grief and get those writing-wheels turning once again.
LaUra has been accepted into Margaret Wheatley's October Warrior Training . This training is also at Ghost Ranch, NM. Funny, right?! As some of you may know, her early life was punctuated with tremendous trauma (abusive parents and lots of loss). The last decade of LaUra's life has been unraveling the trauma and learning to heal her shortcomings and anxieties that stem from that trauma. This training is the next step in her personal evolution. It's an opportunity to heal in community, and bring extra resources back to the GGN.
So, our ask is $3000 ($1500 for each retreat/training).
Aimee and LaUra are trying to move into a gift economy and away from the capitalistic rat race that doesn't allow us to nurture our creativity and give back to the community.
If you have been moved or inspired by our journey thus far, please consider supporting the next phase of our adventure.
Also - if you've been a big financial contributor to our projects, consider stepping back from this one. You have helped us so much and we wouldn't be where we are without you. This ask is for our newer supporters, those who have been impacted and believe in us and haven't had the opportunity to contribute to GGN.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your support, generosity, and belief in us!
*For anyone donating $50+, you will receive a signed copy of our book when it is published. Right now, expected date is Fall 2020.
