Hi, my name is Shannon Simonson, I am fundraising for my daughter Miya Simonson.
on 12/22/2022 my daughter and her friend Angelina stopped to help two young men when they seen them standing outside of their car on highway 14 at the evergreen exit in Vancouver Washington. Miya noticed the car was damaged and no hazard lights on. She got out of the vehicle to see if they were ok and to let them know to turn their lights on. The accident must have just happened as the boys were still in shock and still hadn’t had a chance to call the police because one of the young men asked Miya for her phone so he could find his. Angelina was calling the police and also letting the other slow passing cars that were coming through asking if Miya, Angelina and the two young men needed any help that they had it covered and was calling the police for assistance. The weather was just starting to turn for the worse and the sleet was coming in so traffic was already slowing down by this point. Angelina seen another car coming and she was trying to wave the car and flash her lights on her phone to this car, hoping this oncoming car would see Angelina’s hazard lights but it appeared that nothing grabbed the drivers attention, at that point Angelina from the middle of the hwy 14 screamed to Miya to move and Miya turned in just enough time to see headlights and then remembers waking up in the hospital. The car struck the already crashed car from the two young men and that in turn struck Miya and one of the boys over the 3foot concrete median into the other side of the 14 into oncoming cars and then struck the other young man into the middle of the 14 west bound. All three was rushed to the hospital not knowing if they would survive. The words possible fatalities were used when police had to dispatch to the usual people in these types of scenes. Miya and the two young men are alive and are expected to make a full recovery but with some limitations considered the “ new normal”.
Miya had just moved back home to start a new job and talked about going back to college. We are not sure how much all her medical bills will be but we are definitely worried about her starting life in debt. Miya as an adult has also acquired bills. Such as her car note and insurance. My daughter was just being a Good Samaritan and seen two souls in distress and just wanted to help and make sure they were ok. Unfortunately she was hurt in the process. The kid has such a big heart and sees the good in everything and everyone. This is why I started this go fund me, I can’t imagine her starting life backward.
thank you for taking the time to read this.
love,
