My name is Blair Dieterlen, and for my upcoming 21st birthday, I want to raise $2,100 for Good Shepherd Dental and Medical Clinic. I have volunteered at this clinic throughout my undergraduate time at OU, and it really means a lot to me.
Oklahoma’s uninsured rate is the second highest in the nation, meaning a large portion of the population struggles to receive proper health care. Good Shepherd’s mission is to provide dental and medical care for those who are uninsured, and it has made a huge impact on so many people.
I personally saw how Good Shepherd could change someone's life during my first extraction clinic as a volunteer. One of the patients who came to the clinic was in visible pain due to severe tooth decay. I remember seeing the tears in her eyes as she walked to the dental chair. She explained to the doctor how hard it was to focus on her job due to her tooth pain, but that she hadn’t been able to see a dentist because she didn’t have insurance. After the extraction, I saw her mood completely change. She was smiling from ear-to-ear as she shook the hands of every volunteer and doctor nearby to show her gratitude. I knew that Good Shepherd had just taken a huge amount of stress and pain off of this woman's shoulders.
This is only one of the countless lives that have been changed by Good Shepherd, and I want to help them in anyway that I can. Any donation, small or large, would be greatly appreciated!
