The Good of the Hive Mural
Tax deductible
Bangor Beautiful and Bangor Greendrinks are bringing a 3-story bee-themed mural to Downtown Bangor this June and we need your help to make it happen!
The mural will be part of the Good of the Hive, a global art project by Matthew Willey with the mission of raising awareness for the global decline in the bee population by hand painting over 50,000 honey bees, the number present in a healthy hive.
The artist has painted bee murals all over the world including at the Smithsonian in an effort to “ignite radical curiosity and active engagement around planetary health issues through art, bees and storytelling.”
The mural will be installed on a large, blank, wall at 47 Park Street (Pepinos Mexican Restaurant) in the Heart of Downtown Bangor next to Bangor City Hall. It will be Bangor's largest mural and will help to spur the creation of more public art and larger-scale murals in Bangor. Visit our website to learn more or follow us on social media @BangorBeautiful.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated as we work to fundraise the final portion of the artist's commission. Help us beautify Bangor by investing in public art!
“Bees never forget that they are part of something bigger than themselves… their hive is a part of them. What if we embodied this idea? What if we got curious about the world and each other again instead of intimidated by it? This is why I turn walls into windows – to remember that we are all connected… that separation is an illusion.”
-Artist, Matt Willey
