Las Vegas Last Hurrah for Goodtime Mama Jojo

As some of you may already know, I have been active in the world of burlesque for 47 years! I started out in the late 1970s as a “burlesque artiste” working in London, then all over the UK and internationally too. I opened the first Burlesque school in the UK in 2000 - the London Academy of Burlesque, where I taught and choreographed many other burlesque performers, past and present, such as; Immodesty Blaize, Miss PollyRae, Rose Thorne, Bettsie Bon Bon, Trixee Sparkle, Evelyn Carnate and many others. I have appeared in films and documentaries, taught actresses, dancers, and models. I also worked on some of my favourite projects with disabled performers from Extant and Graeae. So as you can probably tell, burlesque has been a huge part of my life, I love what it has given me and what it has helped me to give to others.

Unfortunately, the last few years have been very difficult for me to continue with my passion as I have been suffering from chronic, and almost constant pain in my hip and lower spine. Sometimes I can’t walk very much and I lose my balance - other times I’m able to do more. It’s very unpredictable. I am still awaiting an MRI, but have tried various treatments whilst in NHS limbo. As you can imagine, this has impacted my health in a variety of ways and I have struggled with the thought that I might never burlesque again.

However, imagine my delight when I was invited to perform at the Titans, Icons and Titleholders night at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas in June. In spite of my current disability, I couldn’t turn down such an incredible opportunity! Even if I have to bling a walking stick and perform sitting down - Goodtime Mama Jojo is Vegas bound.

I was there 16 years ago and am the only UK performer (so far) who has been recognised by BHOF as a legend, so it is a MASSIVE honour to be asked back to represent the UK!

Well, sthis is where you come in - my finances are low, and so, I need help to pay for the flights, hotel accommodation, resort fees, a new costume, props, spending money for food etc, plus I still have to pay my rent and bills while I’m away. I would also like to get some alternative therapy for my back before I go.

I know it may seem like an extravagant adventure, but I’m 65 now and probably won’t get this chance again. I really want to fly the British Burlesque flag, one last time!

It would be amazing if you can help me to realise this dream. Anything, you can give towards my “BHOF last hurrah” - would be greatly appreciated!
