Goose and Lilly: Service Animal Support

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through this!

Living with a complex hypermobility diagnosis encompassing Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, means a lot of things! Chronic pain, episodes of immobility, brain fog, and chronic fatigue are among the obstacles I confront regularly. The under-researched nature of these conditions adds to the constant uncertainty regarding the progression of my symptoms. Nevertheless, I can find solace in the fact that, currently, I experience mostly okay days. If we have crossed paths in person, I was likely having one of those better days!

If you're interested in learning more about my journey and experiences, you can find my story here.

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support I have received from my community so far. Whether it's bringing me food on a bad day, giving me a hug, making me laugh, or sharing a vulnerable conversation about your healing journey, your kindness has really done more than I'll ever be able to express.

Now, for the truly exciting news—my service dog, Goose, is almost ready to come home! He's an 80 lb bundle of pure goldendoodle love. He'll be ready on July 14th! The majority of the costs associated with Goose have been covered, but I still need support for his final months of training. Your donations will also help cover his final vet bills and boarding.

To all those who have already contributed their time, resources, or well wishes, I am eternally grateful! I'm writing this with an already full heart.

With endless gratitude and love,

Lilly

From the training facilities website, Doggie Do Good:

About Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS):
EDS is a complex genetic condition that affects the body's ability to produce collagen—a vital protein responsible for the strength and elasticity of connective tissues. As a result, individuals with EDS experience a wide range of symptoms, including joint hypermobility, chronic pain, fatigue, dislocations, subluxations, and autonomic dysfunction including syncope and heart arrhythmia. These symptoms can make even the simplest of tasks a daily challenge.

The Power of a Service Dog:
A service dog trained specifically for EDS will be an invaluable asset in helping me navigate the difficulties that arise from my condition. They can help with mobility support, alerting to impending dislocations, fetching items, providing balance assistance, and even offering emotional support during more exceptionally painful periods.

Training and Ongoing Care: Once acquired, the service dog will undergo intensive training to develop the skills necessary to assist me with my unique needs. This includes specialized training to identify and respond to symptoms associated with EDS. Additionally, funds will be allocated for the dog's ongoing veterinary care, food, grooming, and equipment needed to keep them healthy and happy.
