Gorilla Bob’s … the Saga continues

2020. A year that came in full of smiles, ambitions and goals. With plans to build a long lasting relationship, with the south end of Louisville, and provide cuisines that aren’t available or popular at our end of town. Traveling just get with car shows over the years, I have been blessed in trying new foods and new cultures, and ones that really stuck with me, how could I not bring back to share them with my community? Push for others to step out of their comfort zone and try new things and by planting myself right in PRP where the opportunity would then exist, even on a small scale.
In March of 2020, our world came crashing down. As everything was shut down for COVID, we had to make the decision to delay in opening The Shack. With the hope that everything would quickly pass, we waited a year after signing our lease to reevaluate the condition, and develop a plan. We knew that gathering equipment and materials needed to run a productive business would be an extra difficult task in the middle of a pandemic, but we had to try! Keeping a positive outlook and keeping the end goal in mind we started looking for used equipment just to get us up and going, envisioning the upgrades and new appliances that could take place as long as we could just get started. Those visions quickly changed as items needed became limited and inflation has continued to rise. Struggling to keep our prices as low as possible (without changing the quality of the food), our portions large and our customers’ happy new equipment was no longer at the top of the list.
For those that don’t know inside the shack you will find, a propane grill, a propane fryer, a 500-degree oven, and an average of 2-3 staff, all accompanied with no air and no heat both that prevent us from providing consistencies in the days and times that we can open. We understand the aggravation and inconvenience that this may bring to the community and even our most loyal customers at times, however the health and safety of our staff and ourselves will always be a priority. Closing not only impacts the reputation of our place, but also directly affects our family as well, so please know that any decision that is made, has been carefully thought out and thoroughly discussed.
SOOO What’s next?
A few customers have voiced that we should create a go fund me, to rewire the building for electric appliances, the appliances their selves, and a heating and air unit. Local companies have offered to help by supplying equipment at cost, which is amazing. We want to continue to serve our community to our very best ability, being able to complete this means we can stay open on those extreme cold and extreme heat days resulting in better customer satisfaction, and a better outcome for all.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the people who have been behind us since day one. Your love, dedication, and support have gotten us where we are today. Here is to getting over the next hurdle, and working toward making Gorilla Bob’s Grub Shack a staple in the community. Your help is greatly appreciated.
