Gotham Rugby Holiday Fundraiser

The Gotham Knights are a community of athletes committed to on-field rugby excellence and to challenging stereotypes and bias that create barriers for queer athletes. Gotham is home for a diverse community that uplifts the best aspects of sports while doing away with the worst parts of sport culture. The club offers high-caliber rugby to experienced players; resources to support those new to the sport or to athletics more broadly; and a welcoming environment that affirms players regardless of income, race, language, sexual orientation, or other intersection of their identity.

 

As champions of inclusive athletics, Gotham participates in USA Rugby's club competition and in International Gay Rugby (IGR.) Every two years, IGR hosts the Bingham Cup , a tournament for IGR member-clubs across the world. Gotham has high hopes for the 2022 Bingham Cup, which is hosted in Ottawa, Canada. The club seeks to send multiple teams to compete, and allow all of our players a chance to participate -- and hopefully win the Bingham Cup!

 

Each Bingham Cup campaign requires a significant investment of time, effort, organization, and equipment by the Board, players, coaches, and supporters. We strongly believe that, "Money should never get in the way of playing rugby," so we are actively fundraising to give our players the support and opportunities they deserve.

 

This holiday season, we are attempting to raise $6,000 for the club. With this amount of fundraising, the club will be able to finance additional coaching support (which we need if we want to send more than one team to Canada!) and upgrades to equipment (incl. rugby balls, pinnies, medical supplies, and physical training tools).
