Goyo’s Fight

On 02/15/2023 Gregorio Castillo was a victim of a road range incident in Topeka, KS. He is a 68 year old man that was physically assaulted by a male in his 20-30’s. Due to the altercation that occurred, Greg was taken to KU hospital in Topeka where it was discovered that he was suffering from a brain injury (hematoma) and was airlifted to KU hospital in Kansas City. He’s undergone two different brain/head surgeries, one of the which required a piece of his skull be removed due to swelling and bleeding of the brain. During this time his family had to make a lot of difficult decisions on what his future will hold, as we do not yet know what his recovery will be like. It is yet unknown if he has suffered any permanent damage. This will only be told with time. As of today, Greg remains somewhat unresponsive. The only thing he is able to do is open and close his right eye and sometimes wiggle his toes and fingers. Greg remained in the SICU (surgical intensive care unit) from 02/15/23 to 03/09/23. As of 8:00 pm on 03/09/23 he was transferred to a long term care hospital in Kansas City where he will receive rehab and therapy sessions to slowly work with him to determine his future life. Gregorio is no longer considered in critical condition, however, the brain is a very sensitive organ and that could change at anytime. During his time in ICU he was fully dependent on a ventilator, he currently only has a traque and we hope he can continue to breath on his own.

If you know Gregorio, you may know his story. He migrated to Topeka, KS in 1998 and has lived here ever since. He is very known in the community and we all know he is the life of the party and our family! Seeing him bed bound when he was such an active, energetic man is completely devastating.

As of today, Greg’s family is working closely with the Topeka Police Department, the District Attorneys Office and detectives to hopefully have charges pressed against the responsible person of this tragedy. An ongoing investigation/case is taking place.

As you may understand, all of this comes with a HUGE financial burden. His wife, kids, grandkids, and nieces have taken a lot time off to be with Greg. Medical bills are starting to build up and expenses for his wife are becoming difficult to handle. We will be using funds to hire an attorney as well, if needed.

Gregorio was given a second chance at life last year in 2022 when he become a kidney transplant recipient! He has overcome so many other obstacles in his life and we are NOT giving up on him or letting some other person take Greg from us. He did not deserve this, please help while we navigate this very unexpected tragedy.

God bless you!
