Nyiece Weddington Memorial

Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart that I share the death of 8 year-old, Nyiece Weddington, on Saturday, October 17, 2015  after a courageous battle with Lymphoma cancer.  Nyiece was a spunky, cute and kind little girl, who touched so many people in her short 8 plus years here on this earth.  Nyiece attended Parkwood-Upjohn Elementary School in Kalamazoo for kindergarten and 1st grade before transferring to Northeastern Elementary.  Nyiece leaves behind her mom, Lanika Johnson, older sister Alasjah and a younger brother.  Nyiece's mom (aka, Ms. Johnson) worked as an activity helper at Parkwood while her the girls attended the school.

Upon hearing of Nyiece's death so many friends, parents and staff (at Parkwood-Upjohn) have asked how they could help.  My hope is to help provide this family with some financial resources that may assist with funeral costs, rent, food or other living needs during this difficult time.  Nyieces mom, Lanika, is a single mother who has been trying to work, take care of a sick child and now faces trying to pay for funeral expenses.  I believe we can help this family, because we are not only an AMAZING school, but a wonderful, caring community.  Funeral arrangements remain pending at Harper Funeral Home in Kalamazoo (harperfuneral.com).
