Paul Maloney Rehab Fund

On the 1st September 2015 Paul Maloney, Branch Chair, Birmingham District Amal Branch, and his wife, Jacquie, were the victims of a brutal assault involving a car being deliberately driven into them. They have both suffered life threatening and life changing injuries. Paul’s injuries were so severe that he was placed in an induced coma for over a month. Paul has now recovered sufficiently for him to be taken by air ambulance to an NHS intensive orthopedic and rehabilitation centre.
Paul’s determination to not only survive his injuries but to also overcome their effects on him is incredible. Having just been re-elected as Branch Chair, Paul is determined to resume work and resume his role. The Birmingham District Amal Branch is determined to do everything we can to ensure Paul achieves his goal. Paul’s injuries may require specialised equipment, changes to his work station or workplace to be made. The Branch has already received a number of donations for which we are extremely grateful. To ensure we have raised sufficient funds to ensure that whatever Paul’s needs are we can meet, one other sponsored event has been organized.
Paul Kennedy, Midlands Divisional Representative and Birmingham District Branch member has decided to undertake a sponsored triathlon with a twist. This will be an indoor triathlon carried out on gym equipment. The distances of each element of the triathlon are:
Row It! – 3 Kilometres on a Rowing Machine
Ride it! – 40 Kilometres on an Exercise Bike
Run it! – 10 Kilometres on a Treadmill
The Triathlon will take place in the Birmingham Branch Conference Room, on Tuesday 29th March 2016, commencing at 13.00
All money raised will go to the Paul Maloney Rehab Fund and will be used to help Paul achieve his goal of returning to the work he loves as the Branch Chair of Birmingham District Amal.
