Grace for Greidy

During this 2022-2023 school year Spring Garden School welcomed Greidy Lemus- Jovel into their kindergarten class. She is a 6-year-old child who brings a kind and spunky attitude whenever she enters the classroom. She is thoughtful and considerate of all her friends and has been observed countless times translating for her Spanish-speaking friends as well as making sure they are comfortable and happy at school. During this school year, Greidy was referred to an ENT (ear nose, and throat) specialist and an ophthalmologist due to some concerns from the school nurse. These specialists ordered that she get an MRI for further investigations. On February 14th, 2023, Greidy’s family received a phone call that she needed to receive emergency brain surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Greidy’s MRI scan showed a large brain tumor. The staff at CHOP removed some of her brain tumor that day. This tumor was then diagnosed as astrocytoma cancer. Astrocytoma is a type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord. Greidy was recovering in the ICU with the support of her family for the past two weeks. On March 1st, 2023 she was released from the hospital to recover at home. Greidy will continue to have weekly treatment and chemotherapy to treat astrocytoma cancer. We are asking and are hopeful that all of the financial contributions that we acquire for this family will put them more at ease with some of the expenses that this terrible tragedy has cost them. Durante este año escolar 2022-2023, la escuela Spring Garden le dio la bienvenida a Greidy Lemus-Jovel a su clase de jardín de infantes. Ella es una niña de 6 años que trae una actitud amable y valiente cada vez que entra al salón de clases. Ella es atenta y considerada con todos sus amigos y se la ha observado innumerables veces traduciendo para sus amigos hispanohablantes y asegurándose de que se sientan cómodos y felices en la escuela. Durante este año escolar, Greidy fue remitida a un otorrinolaringólogo (oído, nariz y garganta) y a un oftalmólogo debido a algunas inquietudes de la enfermera de la escuela. Estos especialistas ordenaron que se hiciera una resonancia magnética para continuar con las investigaciones. El 14 de febrero de 2023, la familia de Greidy recibió una llamada telefónica de que necesitaba someterse a una cirugía cerebral de emergencia en el Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). La resonancia magnética de Greidy mostró un gran tumor cerebral. El personal de CHOP extirpó parte de su tumor cerebral ese día. Este tumor fue luego diagnosticado como cáncer de astrocitoma. El astrocitoma es un tipo de cáncer que puede ocurrir en el cerebro o la médula espinal. Greidy se estaba recuperando en la UCI con el apoyo de su familia durante las últimas dos semanas. El 1 de marzo de 2023 fue dada de alta del hospital para recuperarse en casa. Greidy seguirá recibiendo tratamiento semanal y quimioterapia para tratar el cáncer de astrocitoma. Estamos pidiendo y tenemos la esperanza de que todas las contribuciones financieras que obtengamos para esta familia los tranquilicen con algunos de los gastos que les ha costado esta terrible tragedia.
