Grace University Memorial Historical Marker

Donation protected
To GU Alumni,
After 8 months of work, I have received approval from the owners of the Dahlman Flats to place a Nebraska Historical Marker. This would be placed near the steps at the old front door of the Admin Bldg, 1311 South Ninth. My original concept for one of the original GU granite name stones to be put on OPS property at Pine Elementary failed. The only option left was to go with a State recognized historical marker to remember GU at the site. I hope you feel led to donate to achieve this goal of $2700. That is the actual cost for the marker, posts and delivery. Upon my receipt of the marker, I will reach out to the FB Alumni page to see if any one would like to help installing. The text of the marker is below. Please remember that this had to have an historical flavor to get approved. I want to thank Mel Friesen for his help in all aspects of this endeavor and the historical background.

The Grace Bible Institute
Ten Mennonite pastors and educators from across the US met at the historical Flatiron Hotel in Omaha in 1943 to discuss the desire for a college focused on training missionaries. The University opened in the fall of 1943 with just 23 students. After 75 years, it had just over 10,000+ alumni. On July 1, 1995 the name was changed to Grace University to better reflect its class offerings. A challenging higher education environment forced Grace to close in 2018.

The historical marker image is just a representation of the one that would be made.
