Gracey's Fight

Grace has always been a dedicated teammate and athlete. Always the loudest one cheering for her teammates, she never got upset at a loss because she put everything she could into the game, even if she was injured and couldn't play. Grace always had a positive thing to say or something constructive to build on. She is the heart and soul of our volleyball team.

After a shoulder injury on the sand volleyball court over the Summer, Grace nursed it back to health in time for her Varsity Volleyball season her Senior year. She became the starting Libero. However, a few games into the season, the old shoulder injury flared up and sidelined Gracey. In obvious pain, her parents took her in to be evaluated. After a series of scans and tests, on Tuesday, October 4th, Gracey was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer most often found in young adults.

My name is Ali, and I am among the countless people lucky enough to be considered a friend by the Marek family. Grace, Sean, and Nikki are the most genuine people, and I am grateful to have been given a chance to coach Grace over the last two years of her volleyball season.
