Gracie is 15 & fighting stage 4 high risk Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Donation protected
Hi my name is Amy and I am wanting to help my friend Bama and share her and her daughter Gracie's story in the hopes that people can help her in her time of need.... When I heard about this story I just had to help in any way I could. It took me a while to convince Bama to accept help but she finally agreed. Any donation great or small would be greatly appreciated. Bama has wrote about their journey below and it really has been a tough one. Money will be used for debts accumulated over this time, hopefully another vehicle and day to day living and household expenses. Thanking you in advance.

On November the 29th 2022 Bama and her daughter Gracie's lives changed forever. Gracie was 14yo when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
They have spent the past two years battling this dreadful disease. During this time Gracie has never complained once, she just continues to fight for her life. Bama has been a single Mother ever since Gracie was an infant, it has always just been the two of them. They have an extremely close bond. Bama hasn't been able to work since 2021 due to being Gracie's full time carer, this is when her symptoms started. Bama has never asked for anything but prayers during her difficult journey and she has tried as hard as she possibly could to make ends meet on her own. The past year of Gracie's journey has been particularly difficult. She has lost everything- even selling her only vehicle and means of transportation to stay afloat. The only things she has managed to keep are their clothes and their precious pets (thank goodness). Bama has always said that material things aren't important when your child is sick. Her main concern and worry has been to get Gracie well.

** BELOW IS A TIMELINE OF GRACIE'S JOURNEY WRITTEN BY BAMA *

  • 2021- I had to cease working because Gracie was so sick nonstop. I began homeschooling her. We fought for an entire year to get the doctors to take me seriously in regards to Gracie's declining health. Nobody wanted to order tests because she was "too young" plus the Covid restrictions made everything that much more difficult.
  • 11/22/22- Rushed Gracie to the ER due to shortness of breath, fever, swelling, weakness and uneven pupils. CT scan was done and they found a large mass in her chest. She also had bilateral pericardial effusion and was in heart failure. Doctors stabilized Gracie and within an hour she was Medflighted to St. Judes hospital in Memphis.
  • 11/23/22- Biopsy was done of the mass. Fluid/pressure was removed from chest. PICC line placed in femoral.
  • 11/29/22- Gracie was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
  • 11/30/22 to 5/30/23- Aggressive Chemotherapy. Gracie had 6 full cycles of high dose Brentuximab, Doxorubicin, Etoposide, Dacarbazine, Cyclophosphamide and Prednisone.
  • June and July 2023- Radiation
Gracie has not been able to receive a port for treatment which would have made things much easier. She was able to receive chemo through her PICC for the first month of treatment but then she started having horrible issues with blood clots non stop so they eventually had to remove the PICC. Gracie has had to receive the last 5 cycles of chemo through an IV daily which in turn has completely destroyed her veins.

  • The last PET scan Gracie received in November 2023 showed the mass on her chest was still present and a new spot has also appeared on her thyroid.
  • Gracie will have all scans repeated in June 2024 to see if she will require more treatment. We are praying that the scans will show the mass on her chest has shrunk and the spot on her thyroid hasn't grown.
The aggressive treatment has left Gracie with so many issues that we are battling right now such as-
  • Cardiomyopathy (she is on a few different heart failure meds)
  • Blood clot issues
  • Pupils are permanently uneven- one stays fully dilated whilst the other is pinpoint. This is causing Gracie some light sensitivity issues and overall feeling "off and unbalanced".
  • The biggest issue right now is her severe chronic SVC Syndrome that is caused by the mass in her chest. Gracie has had 3 separate surgeries, 7 hours each surgery within the past month to attempt to open up the SVC obstruction in her chest.
Gracie's case is extremely rare because she is completely obstructed on both the right and left side of her chest. The surgeon has also pointed out that her internal layout is uncommon and because of this her lung is in the way. The last attempt the doctor ended up placing a stent in to try and give her a little relief and to also try to keep the vein open but unfortunately her symptoms immediately came back worse than before. Her surgeon is ordering special equipment and reaching out other surgeons in the country to look at Gracie's case to see if they have any ideas. He wants to be certain before he attempts it again in the coming weeks.
Thank-you for taking the time to read about Gracie's story and we deeply appreciate any donation you can make at this time. As always- prayers are the most important. Our God is a merciful one and we know that he has Gracie in his hands.
