This is Emma Fairchild and I am posting this on behalf of my family and parents, Eric and Kristy Fairchild, as well as Graham's beautiful, precious 4 year old daughter, Nova. My brother and lifelong best friend, Graham Fairchild, experienced a severe traumatic brain injury on Wednesday, April 5th. He was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN and received amazing lifesaving care for the next week. His condition seemingly improved greatly on that Friday, April 8th, and thankfully for most of that day, even with his eyes still closed, Graham was somewhat coherent and was cognizant of the fact that we were there with him and was able to communicate with us fairly well, telling us each that he loved us and even being his usual funny self at times. This brought us all such hope and much relief. Unfortunately, things did not continue to go up from there. His brain began to swell and he had to undergo an intensive and invasive surgery to try to relieve the swelling around his brain. While this seemed to be successful temporarily, his brain began to bleed once again as well as develop an infection in the fluid surrounding his brain. At this point, his poor body began to tell us at every turn that even with all best medical efforts, he was simply not going to be able to withstand the tremendous injuries that he had sustained. And heartbreakingly, after speaking with multiple neurosurgeons and painfully accepting the fact that our vibrant, charismatic Graham was never going to return to us without the use of life support, we had to make the most heartbreaking decision that a family ever has to make and allow him to leave this world, with the dignity he deserved and surrounded by tremendous love. In the end, Graham left this world a true hero. Because of his young age and the way in which he passed, Graham was able to donate the gift of life to at least 8 other lives. We know without a doubt that because of the loving and giving person that my brother was that he would be so extremely proud and that ultimately, his tragedy would be someone else's miracle. We could not be any more proud of him. Graham loved BIG, he lived big and he died big. And that will be his story and we will love him to the end of time.
So many people have asked what they can do to help and we so appreciate the outpouring of love and support. So this is why I have created this page. Our family certainly did not expect or ever see any of this coming. My parents just took on a tremendous amount of unexpected financial and emotional hardship in the way of medical bills, end of life costs, and just an overall loss of everyday normalcy in their lives right now. If you would like to help support them through this, I know that it would help them tremendously and they would be so appreciative. Anyone that knows my Mom and Dad knows what good and kindhearted people they are, that would literally give the shirt off their backs to help out someone in need. So, if their circle of friends could do the same for them in their time of need, we would be so very grateful. Please please keep us all in your prayers. This has been an incredibly difficult time. Graham has left us all far too soon and there is already a void that feels unbearable.
We will share service details when we have those completed.
