Grandpa's Ponds - Hayes Family

Donation protected
Hello Hayes Family!

We’re reaching out because Grandpa’s Ponds needs your help. The money Grandpa put in place to support the maintenance of the ponds was depleted years ago. By the grace of God, a gas lease on the property helped replenish funds and buy us a few more years of funds without having to reach out to the Hayes grandchildren and their families for financial help.

We know that not everyone in the family has the opportunity to enjoy the incredible gift Grandpa and Grandma left us with the cabins and the ponds. For those who do visit the cabins, you know it’s a legacy that we need to sustain for future generations - this was Grandpa’s dream for his family.

In order to maintain the property, a few families have been contributing to cover some of the costs, but these few families cannot sustain the costs needed at this time. If each family would contribute to Grandpa’s Ponds, the overall financial burden would be lessened and collectively we can ensure the property remains in the family for many more generations.

These are some of the critical repairs we need to cover:

  • The creak was eroding into one of the front ponds, which would have washed away the iconic pond if we did not intercede. The repair work costs $7,400 and to date we’ve only collected $4,200 - we still need $3,200 to pay for the work already done.
  • The second need is to remove Aunt Judy’s house. It is rotting and becoming a huge liability for the family. To have the house torn down and removed, we are looking at another $6,500. Since we don’t have funds to cover the cost, we cannot proceed until we collect enough money.
  • The third need is to save all of the Hemlock trees, which are currently being attacked by a beetle. Scott did some research and found that there is an insecticide that will kill the beetles, save the trees, and prevent any damage to the surrounding cabins. We are asking each “core” family (uncle George, Aunt Barbara, etc.) to be responsible for the tree’s on their cabin’s property and we need to collect funds to address the trees in the common areas. The final cost is TBD (pending a survey of the property), but we are looking at $2,000 - $3,000
  • The fourth need is the culvert near Aunt Barbara’s cabin. Aunt Barbara’s family has agreed to cover the cost for those repairs, so no additional ask for this repair.

We are asking that you think about Grandpa & Grandma and their vision for Ponds and then contribute what you can afford to help support the maintenance that is needed. If everyone contributes, we should be able to cover these critical repairs. If we collect more than is needed, the monies will go into the general Pond’s fund to help with annual BAU maintenance and costs (taxes, insurance, etc.)
