Grant’s Liver Transplant

Donation protected

Our baby Grant was born with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia (BA). BA is a blockage in the bile ducts which carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder. At three months old, Grant underwent an emergency surgery, known as the Kasai Procedure, which involves removing his Common Bile Duct and replacing the connection to his liver with a piece of his intestines. His Gallbladder was also removed.

The procedure helped his liver drain fluid to his intestines and allowed him to survive until this point, but it's not a permanent fix. Despite multiple hospital stays and spending almost half his first 8-months of life in the hospital, Grant is a strong, happy little scrapper who is kicking ass every day.

Grant's smile lights up a room, and he's always smiling. But Grant's liver is cirrhotic, resulting in severe fluid buildup in his abdomen, known as Ascites as well as other life-threatening complications. The hard truth is that Grant needs a liver transplant as soon as possible.

On September 7, 2021, Grant's incredible mom and my beautiful wife, Robyn, will be donating a portion of her liver to Grant. This is a permanent cure to his disease. Her surgery should take 6-8 hours, his between 10-12 hours. The surgeries are at two separate hospitals in Los Angeles. My goal is to be there for each of them when they wake up. We are grateful for all of the amazing friends and family who have helped in so many ways already, and in the tough times ahead.

After the transplant, Grant and Robyn will be in recovery for several months. I'll be in the hospital with Grant until he's ready to leave the hospital, and Robyn will join us when she's able to.
Unfortunately, our journey doesn't end when we are dispatched from the hospital. During Grant's recovery, our house has to be free of any harmful bacteria, which means re-homing our dogs for three months. It also means Grant will be on immunosuppressants for the rest of his life, which brings with it a host of special considerations.

Getting Grant the care he deserves requires extra love and attention. We want to provide him the best care possible, but we know it won't be cheap. We could use your help. Your donation will go directly towards Grant's care, including:

  • Pharmacy costs
  • Emergency room visits
  • House deep cleaning after transplant
  • Toys
  • In-home care
  • Boarding near hospital

We appreciate all the messages of care and love. We are so grateful for all the amazing friends and family we have surrounding us. More than anything, we are excited for Grant to have the most compatible liver possible, and are looking forward to the hardest part of this saga being behind us before his first birthday.
