Grappenhall and Thelwall RBL Remembrance Day Parade
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Chris Morton and I'm raising money towards our annual Remembrance Day parade. We're the last Royal British Legion Club in Warrington and we feel it's vital to continue to hold our annual Remembrance Day parade. Since Covid, Cheshire Police withdrew their support for policing the route. Since then, we've had to fund the entire day ourselves. Last year, the traffic management to allow for the road closure alone was nearly £5000. We alternate each year between walking from the Legion to St Wilfs in Grappenhall and All Saints in Thelwall. We also provide food and entertainment for marchers, veterans and families as well as a bagpiper and drummer. We receive no funding from Warrington Borough Council, the Royal British Legion or Cheshire Police although be do receive a small grant from the parish council. Being a small, not for profit business, it's becoming increasingly difficult to sustain the parade which we feel is vital for the community. To remember those that gave their lives is paramount, not only to reflect, but also to encourage future generations to remember and learn about the greatest sacrifice that people have made. Lest we forget.
