Gratiot County Local History Class

Hi, my name is Jim Goodspeed, and I am raising funds for a Local History class at Fulton High School in Middleton, Michigan. The class focuses on Gratiot County but also incorporates Michigan history into its scope. I have 28 students signed up this semester, and every seat is taken in my room. The class comprises at least 28 students, grades - 12, and it is the second time I am teaching this elective. However, due to the large class size, I must purchase another 15 copies of our central text, Dave McMacken's Taming the Wilderness: The Amazing Story of the Settlement of Gratiot County. Students in this class learn about Gratiot County, starting with prehistoric times up into the 20th Century. While we cover items from McMacken's book, the ride in this class makes students encounter people, places, and things found well up into the 20th century. We are fortunate to have this elective again this year for students. However, I do not have enough books. If you would like to help students engage with local/county history, this is a project that would appreciate your help. This project also keeps alive and teaches history from our latest and most prolific county historian, the late Dave McMacken.
