Mike Grau was diagnosed with Stage 4 bladder cancer a year ago and has been fighting an incredible battle since his diagnosis. He has undergone a complete Neobladder surgery where Doctor’s made a new bladder from his intestines. Has undergone strong regimen of Chemo / Radiation & Immunotherapy for almost this entire year! Last week he, his wife Megan, and son Turner were given the devastating news that his cancer has spread and Mike has been given a terminal diagnosis. The cancer has spread throughout his Pelvis, fracturing his pubic bone- through his sacrum and thru his spine (l1-l3) both his lungs & they fear in his liver! All of this causes constant pain, but Mike keeps fighting w more Chemo & immunotherapy, Inferred Sauna treatments and Mike is now receiving vitamin C infusion to help with treatment side effects at a cost of $500 per week, which insurance does NOT cover!
The roots run deep for Mike & Megan Grau they were both born and raised in Emsworth, PA. They are both graduates of Avonworth High School and Mike played football for Lafayette College and then chose to stay in Avonworth to raise their family. Mike & Megan have been close family friends since Middle School and are about to Celebrate 25 years of Marriage! Mike has volunteered for 20+ years in multiple capacities for Avonworth sports. He coached Little Lopes basketball, Eagles football, and served as an AAA Baseball head coach and board member. Mike was also the High School basketball statistician and the lifting and training coach for Avonworth football. Those who know the Grau family would describe them as extremely close and generous, always opening their home to family and friends. Mike was determined to attend as many of his son’s Youngstown State baseball games as physically possible this season.
It has been a devastating year for this family, In May 17, 2020, the emergency room held 3 family members fighting for their lives at the same time. On that day, Mike was given his diagnosis, Megan’s Brother Troy was admitted admitted for his failing kidney, and Megan’s mother/Mike’s mother-in-law, Patty Roth, was brought into the hospital as well. A month later Patty passed away, and just a couple months ago Mike also lost his mother, Barb Grau.
Mike, Megan & Turner continue to keep their faith, their strength, and their love for each other. Mike at this time is unable to work which has also added financial hardship. We would like to help relieve some of the financial stress on this family As one can imagine, medical bills, household bills, and everyday living costs do not go away when someone is battling their health. This family has dealt with so much tragedy and heartbreak in such a short period of time, and we call on you to open your hearts to help the Grau Family! #GrauStrong❤️3
