Gravesite Marker for Grandpa Louis Foy Jr.
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Reffie Foy and I have a very special story to share with you all. In the mid 50's, my Grandfather Louis Foy Jr. moved his family to Richmond California to flee from a threat to his life. Back home in Louisiana, a man threatened to harm his oldest daughter, and as a reaction, my grandfather knocked on the mans door. This infuriated the man, who pulled out a Rifle on my Grandfather. My grandfathers reaction was to disarm the man, and hit him with the rifle. At this moment, my Grandfather ran, tossed the rifle and never looked back. That man then returned to my Grandfathers house, and told my Grandmother that he needed to leave town. He threatened to Kill my grandfather. This was in the south, I am sure some of you can read between the lines here to determine it was a racial situation. Grandpa Louis took to California and later sent for the rest of his family to follow. His young family was completely dependent on his love, and financial support. A few years after moving, his life was cut short. He was murdered. His new life proved to be short lived.
Grandpa Louis' sudden death forced his young family to fend for themselves. As you can imagine, the shock of losing the major bread winner with a family of 8, it proved to be a difficult task for my Grandmother. My grandfathers Siblings helped provide my Grandfather with a dignified burial to lay him to rest however, there was something missing.
Recently, I went to visit my Father who still lives in California. He is Louis Foy the third. He is 82 years old and had a desire to see his Fathers Gravesite during this visit. He had mentioned to me on the way up to the Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Vallejo CA, that he had not visited the gravesite since my Grandfather's Funeral in 1959. I had done lots of research to find my Grandfathers Gravesite, and had visited one other time a few years back, so felt honored to bring my Father. When we arrived, the wonderful Director walked us both over to the site.
The picture you see is the moment my Father realized that my Grandfather's grave was missing something. What you don't see in the picture is the headstone. It is non-existent. It was at this moment my father found his purpose. It is my fathers wish to put a Grave Marker down for my Grandfathers site. I want to help him, and with your help, we can make this happen. At 82, my father doesn't bring home much income outside his retirement. He is on a fixed income. My wife and I talked about this and discussed options to help him. It was then decided, we will surprise my father with this GoFundMe Fundraiser.
Your contribution not only helps provide some closure to my Fathers wishes, but it also helps us preserve Grandpa Louis' memory by providing a place for his family and relatives to visit. It will allow us to have a grave site that is easier to locate, rather then a empty space between two other people.
Please, help us provide Grandpa Louis with a Grave Marker of his own
