Grayson's Transplant Journey
Five year old Grayson Zysset was born with a heart condition, HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. HLHS is a condition in which the left ventricle of the heart is severely underdeveloped, thus leaving him with a heart working at half capacity. This condition has and will require multiple operations across Grayson’s life. At just two days old, Grayson underwent his first open heart surgery where they were able to reroute the blood flow in his body so that the right side of his heart could pump blood through his entire body. However, this surgery was only a temporary solution to Grayson's complex condition. At six months old, Grayson underwent his second open heart surgery where they were able to make Grayson's heart be able to adapt and grow with him as he got older. Generally, the treatment plan would have been for Grayson to undergo another open heart surgery when he was 4-5 years old, but the doctors were very impressed with how Grayson was doing and COVID-19 kept pushing the next phase of treatment off, although research has shown there is not much benefit form the 3rd surgery in the series. The Zysset family has been told by doctors that Grayson is exceeding expectations given his condition, but he has reached a point where he is requiring a transplant in the next year.
We, as Constructors would like to use this platform to help the Zysset family cover some of the medical expenses incurred through doctor’s visits, surgeries and extended stays at Children’s Hospital in Omaha as they journey through the heart transplant process with Grayson. All donations will go to the Zysset family to help offset these costs. Please also keep the Zysset family in your thoughts and prayers on their long road ahead.
