Great Grimsby 3D Printing for NHS and Keyworkers
Can you be a part of the fantastic local effort to provide essential safety equipment for the NHS and Keyworkers?
Nik Brunt started 3D printing face shields at home in his loft, keen to do whatever he could to help the incredible hard work of those on the front line and far too often hearing of how there wasn't adequate safety equipment available for those in such high risk job roles.
A post on Facebook quickly received several hundred shares and hundreds of comments generating a huge response from people across Grimsby and the surrounding area who also had 3D printers and wanted to help too. There were countless others offering time and keen to help the effort too. The Evening Telegraph also picked up on the hugely popular post and ran a detailed article too, sharing Nik's story and desire to help, you can read the full story here.
To help coordinate all this, a Facebook Group was set up to bring everyone together into a single place to make sure resources were shared and the shields were getting to those who needed them most.
Nik's Face Shield design has been verified by a virus testing lab through the Health Tree Foundation.
Face shields have already been donated to GPs, care homes, nursing staff, and many other front line workers, with urgent requests coming in daily.
To be absolutely clear, at no point will anyone be charged for face shields that are produced. No one involved is making any profit, with many volunteering their time and using hundreds of pounds of their own money to buy materials. We have already received so much support with a gentleman even purchasing a 3D printer to help contribute to producing more masks! Many have also said how they wish to donate money to help the group buy materials to ensure that production keeps up with the demand. The design of the mask is so simple yet so effective, each one only costs around 50p to produce!
So how can you help? You may have a 3D printer or time that you can help with manufacturing them, if so, amazing! Thank you, please head to our dedicated Facebook Page Great Grimsby 3D Printing for NHS and Keyworkers where there is a simple form to fill in so we can get in touch with how you can be involved.
You can also donate by giving here on our GoFundMe page. Every penny will only be used for purchasing materials (both the PLA Filament for the 3D printers and the clear plastic for the front) which will then enable us to share these resources to the wonderful people helping to 3D print the components in this area. If funds allow, we may also be able to purchase additional equipment to help speed up manufacturing too!
Whatever you can give, however large or small, will make a huge difference to those in our local area. Thank you so much for all your encouragement and support, you are all heroes.
Keep safe and take care,
Nik Blunt and David Jones
