Great Pyrenees Rescues (heartworm treatments)

Donation protected

About a week ago my mom went to field day with my son and was bringing him home from school. She came across two Great Pyrenees that were wandering the road and looking super rough. We didn’t know at the time but these dogs had been wandering for a hot minute. She followed them for an hour and as they got closer and closer to highway 16 she was getting more and more distraught. My mom has a major soft spot for dogs (we worked rescue with love-a-pet for 5 years back in the day). My mom feared they’d get hit and killed, she was determined to get them off the streets. I met up with her and together we got these two gentle giants in my van and safely in my yard. That evening my search for the owners began. I posted on Brooks and Spalding pages & I learned that they had been spotted all over griffin for weeks and that numerous people had tried to capture them and had reported to animal control. Next day and nobody was coming forward but 100’s had stated they had spotted them and at least a dozen had theories on where they came from. I started the legal process and contacted animal control and had them placed on a stray hold. My mom and I decided we were keeping them if no owner was found. I took them to get checked for chips and the female was in fact chipped. I spoke with the owner who stated he’d get them from me that evening. I spoke further with animal control as well. Animal control informed me that this wasn’t the first time dealing with these dogs roaming and that they were going to have to issue the owner citations in hopes that they will do better by them. At this point my mom and I feared sending them home due to the fact that they had been missing for so long and previous owner didn’t even bother to search for them. We feared they’d just end up right back in the same situation. I spoke with the owner again and asked if we could keep the dogs. He told me he’d think about it. I informed animal control of this and they said they’d wave citations if he’d give the dogs to us. They NEEDED responsibile owners! Well fast forward a few hours later and owner calls and says he’s on the way. I asked if he had considered letting them stay and he originally said just the girl could stay… I knew that wouldn’t work as they’d go crazy trying to get back to one another so it was agreed he was taking them both home but would let me visit. Phone call ended and 10 mins later he calls back and says they are BOTH mine!

So my mom & I now own a set of Great Pyrenees dogs… and as everyone would think this would be a simple happily every after unfortunately it’s become a bit more complicated than that. We anticipated to pay about $500-$600 to get these dogs caught up on shots and on flea/tick, and heart worm prevention…. Well after our trip to the vet today and about what we expected to pay for those routine things we were informed that BOTH Benny & Buttercup have heartworms!!! This is completely heartbreaking as they are both about 2 years old and have lots of life left to live. Benny unfortunately has a bad case of heartworms and Buttercup is early on in the progression of it. But the treatments do work and can cure them both.

They will both be starting treatments next week on Monday the 15th and I’d like to ask the community to please consider donating to help with the costs. For both their treatments it’s a total of $1,830. We would greatly appreciate any and all help with this. These two beautiful dogs deserve to start their new lives healthy and properly cared for.

We are having them treated at Memorial Drive Veterinary Clinic next Monday the 15th. Feel free to call them and confirm. [phone redacted] Veronica (lady who works there said she’d be happy to share information about their situation)

All donations go towards their vet expenses and care.

Thank you!
