Helping Museum Workers in the Greater Philadelphia Region During the Coronavirus Crisis
Since 1939, the Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia has advocated on behalf of area cultural organizations and their constituencies. During this time of crisis, we are shifting our focus from professional development to providing direct monetary relief to the people we serve. The health and economic damage caused by the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has already ravaged the museum sector in the Philadelphia region and beyond. Anchor institutions (both big and small) continue to lay off or furlough vast portions of their workforces and employees' are seeing their income disappear overnight. While we wait for state assistance, our colleagues and friends are in immediate need of financial support to pay for daily necessities like groceries and other basic needs
Your donation will be distributed to museum workers who have lost their income or jobs to help them in this time of widespread need, and is 100% tax-deductible as permitted by law. Funds will be distributed on a rolling basis as donations allow to individuals in the order in which we receive their request. We will post updates on this initiative here and on social media. Should you have any questions, please email [email redacted].
If you are a museum worker in the Philadelphia area and have lost your job or income due to the Coronavirus crisis and would like to apply for financial assistance, please submit your request here . The Museum Council will make gifts of $50 (through Venmo or Paypal - distributed on Fridays) in the order in which the applications are received. Should additional funding become available, the Council may distribute funds to applicants more than once, though new applicants will be given first consideration. Museum Council Board members are eligible without special preference.
How can you help?
To help employees in our cultural sector, chip in $10, $25, $50, or whatever you can afford. Your donation lands directly in the pockets of these workers who have lost income or their job.
