Great Steppe Fiber Project

Mongolia has the world's best fiber (cashmere, yak, and fine wool), however they don't have a current tradition of hand spinning. I'm going to Ulaanbaatar in Outer Mongolia in July to teach spinning and learn about traditional felting. I will be staying with my friend, Zola, who is from Mongolia. Our goal is to partner with the people of Mongolia and Jorstad Creek Dye Studio, a local yarn and fiber company, to create a worker owned fiber company in Mongolia that would provide a way for them to earn a living and support their families.

Donations will help cover travel costs and materials to teach spinning. Anything leftover will go towards start up costs for the business and fiber equipment.
