Green Island to Cairns Swim for Charity
Hi everyone,
We’re two local lads from FNQ and we’re preparing to swim solo from Green Island to Cairns this September, one of the world's longest swim crossings on par with the English Channel. In making this attempt, we hope to raise funds and awareness for a local not-for-profit organisation, AFL Cape York House Foundation.
The Foundation works to improve learning outcomes for young Indigenous people across the Cape and FNQ, as well as providing them with support for their wellbeing and future.
It’s a cause that the two of us feel very strongly about, having seen firsthand the significant challenges facing some of our remote communities in FNQ. For us, swimming the crossing represents the huge gap in educational opportunities for many Indigenous Australians and highlights the great work organisations like AFL Cape York House Foundation are doing to close that gap.
We’ll be swimming more than 27 kilometres under marathon conditions, which means we won’t touch the boat or our support crew for the 10+ hours it will take us. It will be a massive challenge for the both of us but hopefully we can raise some serious funds and awareness for this fantastic organisation!
You can read more about their work here.
Thanks for all your support,
Jesse and Joel
