Green Up Gambia
Donation protected
Since it is unfortunately not possible to send income from this fundraiser to a bank account in Gambia, our friend Rebekka from Germany is named as the beneficiary of the donation. But no worries, all donations will go directly to Green-Up Gambia.
Green-Up Gambia started as "Climate Watch The Gambia" until 2016 when the organization was launched during the commemoration of International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer.
In 2017, Green-Up Gambia became an independent organization as a result of its outstanding performance and successful activities, high profile and wide base of enthusiastic volunteers.
Since then, the organization has been engaged on climate change mitigation and adaptation in rural Gambia, raising eco-conciousness among communities and youth associations through the introduction of sustainable climate smart agriculture.
The organization has also been working ardently towards addressing environmental crises such as deforestation, land degradation and waste management.
In 2023, Green-Up Gambia have mobilized 1000+ volunteers with a presence in all the administrative regions of The Gambia.
The goal of Green-Up Gambia is to create an environmentally friendly, ecologically stable, and economically flourishing Gambia for the benefit of her people.
Climate Circles is the most recent project of Green-Up Gambia which has three components.
The first focuses on working with selected schools to establish green clubs and tree nurseries aimed at
restoring 14000 trees of both fruit and indigenous species across the country.
The second component focuses on raising awareness with seven farming communities mainly women and youth on sustainable and smart agricultural practices that seeks to reduce pressure on our forest ecosystems as way of contributing against combating climate change.
The third component deals with capacity building of green club members and their teacher coordinators for all the beneficiary schools of the project on climate change education and tree nursery management. This is meant to ensure sustainable provision of care and management to the trees raised in the respective schools.
Every tree that will be planted because of your help will feed someone, bound carbon and stabilize the soil:
- 1 euro will pay for one umbrella tree seedling,
- 3 euros will pay for one orange, mango, pawpaw or avocado tree seedling,
- 5 euros will pay for one coconut seedling,
- 7 euros will pay for one rake,
- 20 euros will pay for 1 cubic litres of compost at the start of the planting.
Thank you very much for reading about our project. Please do not hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions.
We hope you are staying safe and well in these difficult times.
All our love,
Green-Up Gambia
