Greenbrier East Soccer Facility

The construction of a new soccer facility for Spartan Soccer has begun.   The new high school soccer facility will support the rapidly growing soccer community in Greenbrier County.  Currently, the Men's and Women's Soccer teams utilize the Greenbrier East High School Football Stadium to host home games and conduct practices.  A facility dedicated to the soccer program will reduce the burden on the football turf, extending the life of the field, and give our soccer athletes dedicated space so that they are not relocated due to lack of fields.  Expanding the campus to include a regulation size soccer field, field lights, bleachers, locker rooms, concession and other public facilities will put Greenbrier East on a level playing field with other high school soccer programs.
Greenbrier County Soccer Programs have grown exponentially over the past few years.  Area soccer supporters have invested time and money to support the development of soccer in the community. This has included construction of an indoor practice facility, trained coaching volunteers and support network who have committed their time and resources to player development.  Many area players are now participating in travel/club ball and have attended tournaments all over the East Coast and recently as far as Scotland.  The West Virginia ODP(Olympic Development Program) teams included a number of players from Greenbrier County.  In fact the WV ODP teams rostered 9 players from Greenbrier County this year.(A very large showing on a population basis).  Every year Greenbrier East improves its showing in State High School playoffs.  The Women’s team has advance to the Semi-Final the past two years in a row.  These kids have been trained from a very young age in Greenbrier Youth Soccer programs and just now that training is manifesting itself at higher levels of play.
With a population of just 35,000 this is a very strong showing against larger more equipped and funded teams.  This new facility will provide an International(FIFA) sized field with all support structures and lighting.  Currently there is not an actual full size field in Greenbrier County.  The closest are the Beckley fields at Paul Cline stadium. Beckley’s complex was a coordinated community effort that provided a fantastic complex for those kids.  

Fundraising efforts to date have been tremendously successful.  To date enough funding has been raised to complete the excavation, drainage, state of the art irrigation system, scoreboard, and athletic grass hydro-seeding.   Also the majority of the funding for a 6 pole stadium light structure is complete.  We need just $36,500 to complete the field and lighting.  When we close this gap the field can rest for winter and the “baby athletic grass” will grow and strengthen for the spring.

Thank you so much to the organizations, businesses and individuals who have given to this project. Because of this generosity the project is 12 months ahead of schedule. In an effort to reach outside of the community a Go-Fund-Me account has been established.   We are seeking to raise $20,000 in this Go-Fund Me endeavor.   This combined with other fund raising will close the gap and finish the project with the exclusion of the support buildings.  Completing our Phase I/Field and Phase 2/Lights by mid-September.  We are asking players and supporters to reach out to their friends and family and provide the Go-Fund-Me link.  This will provide an easy way for grandparents or friends to give to the project in support of their favorite soccer player. Every dollar raised will go to support the field project and every little bit helps.
