Greenlight Bookstore Union Solidarity Fund
Donation protected
This fundraiser is being organized by the Greenlight Bookstore Union and is intended to support the staff who are being laid off in May when the Flatbush Ave storefront closes. A significant portion of staff will be impacted by these layoffs and the resulting loss of income; our wages are low to begin with, and their loss is deeply felt. Greenlight management offered only two weeks of severance pay to those who voluntarily chose to leave after the closure announcement was made, and to help ease the impending financial burden of lost income, the Greenlight Bookstore Union is organizing this fund to help support the affected staff members.
Without the union workers of Greenlight Bookstore, the store would not be in business. Booksellers are arguably the most essential workers in the store, and ours work hard to provide excellent service and recommendations. Booksellers have supported the store through the throes of the pandemic and beyond, and we’re devastated that these passionate, hardworking members of our team are being let go after having put so much effort and care into the store’s operations.
This fundraiser is being organized directly by a group of Greenlight Bookstore staff members. Upon receipt, the funds will be transferred to one of our bookseller’s personal accounts, who will then and will then distribute the fund via electronic transfer to the 12 booksellers who are being laid off in May, 2023. As a gesture of solidarity with the Greenlight Union, we hope that you’ll donate and spread the word in support of our staff.
