Greenpointers Local News Fund

Local news is more important than ever and Greenpointers has continued to answer the call to provide critical information to the community in Greenpoint and Williamsburg.
But as COVID-19 has ravaged through North Brooklyn and has been a destructive force to the media industry at large, we are no exception to these challenges and need your help.
In recent months, we have reported on closures, openings, re-openings, and fundraisers to help support small local businesses, community organizations, and volunteers. We have also connected our audience to essential information to navigate the coronavirus crisis, brought awareness to crime and safety concerns, informed voters on candidates for local elections, and initiated important conversations around the issues of race in the context of our neighborhood.
Small business owners tell us that our work helps bring in much needed cash flow as they started to transition to online sales, deliveries, or have fundraisers to support their staff. We have also brought national attention to local heroes and community organizations leading to a surge in fundraising to feed the food insecure. Greenpointers also highlights the uplifting stories that show how our community is coping with the challenges of isolation and an uncertain economic future.
All this work is free to the public and free of charge to the small businesses we support, but it’s not free to us. Quality, trusted journalism takes a lot of work and even as we are working double time, our revenue, which has mostly come from our events, has been cut off.
With your support, we will be able to keep the lights on, pay our staff and hire more reporters. As our neighborhood launches into the recovery phase, we hope to remain in operation for the rebuilding process.
So if you feel like hyperlocal, trusted information is critical to our neighborhood, please consider making a donation. We are committed to covering stories that are driven by our community needs, not click-rates or sensationalism. And we will continue to look for a path towards sustainability to stay with our community in the future.
