Help Revitalize the Greenport Skate Park

Tax deductible
The Greenport Skate Park has been a cornerstone of our community since its inception in 1998, offering a 20,000-square-foot playground for skaters of all ages. For nearly 25 years, this park has been more than just concrete and ramps; it's been a place where lifelong friendships were forged, skills were honed, and memories were made. However, as the years have passed, the park's once vibrant pulse has weakened. Neglected for over a decade, it now stands as a shadow of its former self, a crumbling reminder of what was once a thriving hub of activity.

In 2019, a young skater’s heartfelt plea brought attention to the park's dire condition, sparking a movement to restore it to its former glory. This plea resonated deeply with local business owner and community member, Rena Wilhelm, who could not ignore the call for help. With determination and the support of a few dedicated volunteers, Rena founded Greenport Skate Park Inc., a non-profit organization with a dual mission: to keep our local skaters engaged through events that celebrate skate culture, and to raise the necessary funds for a complete revitalization of the park.

Under Rena's leadership, the organization has breathed new life into the park, hosting events that have reignited the passion of our skating community. In recognition of her tireless efforts, Rena was named The Suffolk Times' Community Leader of the Year in 2022. But despite the progress made, the park’s revitalization is far from complete.

Our vision is not just to repair what is broken, but to reimagine the Greenport Skate Park as a safer, more inclusive, and dynamic space that can nurture the next generation of skaters while honoring the legacy of those who have come before. We aim to create a foundation that not only restores the park but also fosters education, rewards dedication, and opens doors to careers within the ever-growing world of skate culture.

To achieve this, we need your help. The revitalization of the Greenport Skate Park is more than just a physical transformation—it’s a commitment to our community, to our youth, and to the future of skate culture in Greenport. Every dollar raised brings us closer to a park that reflects the spirit, resilience, and creativity of the skaters who call it home.

Please consider donating to this cause. Together, we can show our community that they have not been forgotten and that the Greenport Skate Park will once again be a place where dreams take flight.

How will the funds be used:
Before we can begin construction, we must first develop detailed engineering plans. These plans are critical in ensuring the park’s flow, transitions, and overall functionality. Without them, the park could fall short of its potential, making it difficult for skaters to safely enjoy their sport. Proper planning is the foundation of a successful skate park, and we are committed to getting it right from the start.

The Importance of Building with Cement:
One of the key aspects of our project is the decision to construct the park using cement. Cement offers several advantages over other materials. It is incredibly durable, providing a longer-lasting park that can withstand years of heavy use. This makes it a better investment for our community, as it reduces the need for frequent repairs and maintenance. Additionally, cement creates smoother surfaces and transitions, allowing skaters to perform at their best while minimizing the risk of injury.

Your Impact:
By contributing to this campaign, you are directly supporting the creation of a safer, more dynamic skate park in Greenport. Every dollar raised will go towards the engineering plans, materials, and construction needed to make this vision a reality. With your help, we can build a park that will inspire creativity, promote physical activity, and foster a strong sense of community.
